Real South Australian women talk to us on a daily basis about the negative impacts of gambling harm.

We call upon South Australian politicians to:

  • Recognise that gambling is a public health issue. Every South Australian deserves political commitment to a public health strategy to reduce gambling harm that is equally inclusive of men and women’s needs.

  • Create a Women and Gambling Harm Advisory Panel. Women with lived experience must be included in every discussion around the reduction of gambling harm.

  • Fund gendered research into gambling harm. Women and men have different needs when they are recovering from gambling harm.

  • Increase funding for prevention and research. A fixed percentage of gambling revenue tax should be dedicated to harm prevention. Focus research issues should be the link between gambling harm and family violence and the impact of gambling on children and families.

Women’s voices in gambling policy, gender responsive gambling support and stronger harm reduction for poker machines are critical issues for South Australia. 2026 is the year to focus on the equality of support, harm reduction and the power of the voice of lived experience women.
